128% ROI for retailers, 90% increase completation rate
OVERVIEW
The Doris Mirror is a virtual try-on (VTO) totem designed to bridge the gap between physical retail and digital convenience. Despite its advanced tech, the initial version faced low engagement due to high cognitive load, poor feedback loops, and accessibility barriers for different user heights
THE CHALLENGE
Users didn't understand how to interact with the gesture-based UI, leading to session drop-offs and a direct negative impact on retailers' ROI.
THE PROBLEM
The "magic" of the technology was being lost in a confusing user journey:
Feedback Vacuum: Users didn't know if they were being tracked or when a photo was taken.
Accessibility Gaps: The UI didn't account for shorter users or children, making physical interaction frustrating.
Friction: Wrong gender detection and poor garment fit eroded consumer trust, decreasing potential revenue.
"The tech was powerful, but the UX was the blocker."

THE SOLUTION
I redesigned the end-to-end experience by focusing on reducing cognitive load and physical ergonomics.
Streamlining the Flow
Guided Path: Eliminated unnecessary "skip" or "restart" options, creating a linear, 90% completion-rate journey.
UI Refactoring: Rebuilt components to make states (tracking, loading, captured) explicit and unmistakable.
Hardware & Software Synergy
Collaborated directly with hardware and IT teams to ensure that animation timings and sensor recognition worked reliably in real-world lighting and physical constraints.

Mapping the New Flow
MOTION OVER TEXT
Replaced long instructions with a 3-second full-screen animation showing body movement cues.
Instant Feedback: Added visual "pulses" and micro-interactions so users know exactly when the mirror "sees" them.

RESULTS
The redesign transformed the Doris Mirror from a "confusing screen" into a high-performing sales tool.
+63%
Increase in Virtual Try-On adoption.
90%
Completion rate (users finishing the full flow).
128%
ROI for retailers due to increased engagement and fewer returns.
